Sleeping Bags

Sleeping Bags: Providing Warmth, Dignity, and Hope Providing warmth, comfort, and hope to families facing harsh winter conditions in Afghanistan. Through a collaborative partnership, Sultana Fund and the Blossom Pads team worked alongside Rahmatullah Hamraz and the local NCPDO team to support the production and distribution of locally made sleeping bags for vulnerable families in Afghanistan. The sleeping bags were handcrafted by local Afghan women, creating meaningful employment opportunities and a source of income while producing essential winter items for families in need. With generous support from Blossom Hill, this collaborative effort helped make the project possible. The initiative was developed in partnership with TravlerPack, which worked with local partners to transfer the knowledge, design, and production techniques needed to create high-quality, winter-ready sleeping bags. Following the devastating earthquake in Kunar, our teams came together to produce and distribute 750 sleeping bags to earthquake-affected families, providing much-needed warmth and support during a time of crisis. This project demonstrates the power of collaboration: international partners and donors supporting locally led solutions, while Afghan women gain opportunities to use their skills, earn an income, and help protect their own communities. We are deeply grateful to our partners and supporters who made this work possible, including: Blossom Hill, for its generous funding and support for locally led initiatives. TravlerPack, for its partnership and technical support in developing and sharing the sleeping bag model. Together, we are creating more than sleeping bags we are creating warmth, livelihoods, dignity, and hope for Afghan families when they need it most.

Locally Made Sleeping Bags for Families in Need
Providing life-saving warmth and emergency support to families in need while creating meaningful job opportunities and a sustainable source of income for Afghan women and girls during an especially difficult time. By producing the sleeping bags locally, women and girls were able to use their tailoring skills, earn an income, support their families, and contribute directly to helping vulnerable communities.

From Local Materials to Life-Saving Support These photos capture the journey of our sleeping bag project—from purchasing raw materials locally to cutting and preparing the materials, sewing and producing the sleeping bags, quality checking the finished products, and finally distributing them to families in need in Kunar and Bamiyan Provinces, Afghanistan. Every step of the process was carried out with the goal of creating both immediate humanitarian support and meaningful economic opportunities for Afghan women and girls. By producing the sleeping bags locally, the project created employment opportunities, supported local skills and livelihoods, and ensured that vulnerable families received much-needed warmth during difficult times. Together, these images tell the story of how local resources, local skills, and strong partnerships were transformed into 750 sleeping bags, jobs for Afghan women and girls, and warmth and hope for families in need.
